Since I'll be writing about tools a lot, here's what I'm actually running so you have context for my biases.
Arch and Ubuntu on servers. Yes, both. No, I'm not going to justify this.
Proxmox for virtualization. ZFS as underlaying storage.
Networking goes through Netbird. It's easy to use, it works well and it's well developed.
Observability: Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Alloy. I have opinions about Alloy that will probably surface here eventually.
Infrastructure as code: Terraform for provisioning, Ansible for configuration. The combination that everyone ends up at after trying to use one of them for both jobs.
Terminal: oh-my-zsh + p10k, tmux, iTerm, dashboards with wtfutil. Nothing exotic. I've been through the phase of spending more time configuring my environment than using it. I came out the other side.
~ Closed source: MacOS on workstation, QNAP as NAS, Bambulab H2D as 3D printing workhorse.
That's the context. Posts here will mostly live somewhere in this ecosystem.
